Abstract

Abstract: 1.1. An effective procedure for the isolation in good yield of active ribosomes of the malarial parasite Plasmodium knowlesi is described.2.2. The isolated ribosomes have an average monomeric sedimentation velocity of 79 S.3.3. Graded withdrawal of magnesium produces particles of 59 S, 50 S, 44 S, 24 S and 16 S.4.4. From the data obtained and from literature discussed, it is inferred that malarial ribosomes are unlike both bacterial and animal ribosomes. Stringent classification will require extensive study of the ribosomal RNA of the parasites.
